Not Used: Suggestion of rebuilding CEP haks
I say we need to get rid of creatures of the same sort that are in the current CEP. Now with tinting and sizing available we should re-do the CEP haks. A completely NEW CEP.
WE could free up so many blueprints and reduce the models in the haks for these duplicates and thus freeing up more room for newer content without going over the limits. I would like to hear some feed back on this. Be honest and lets make changes that are way over due.

Re: Not Used: Suggestion of rebuilding CEP haks
One of the core values of the CEP has always been backwards compatibility (except for the break caused by version 2.0 by an older incarnation of the team). Any module or PW made with version 2.0 or later should have no problems being played by someone with say version 2.5 installed.
I know I would personally never use newer versions of CEP if I had to go back and update my entire PW with every CEP version that comes along. It's enough that I already have to merge tons of 2das with hundreds of entries. I wouldn't go through and update creatures or placeables. That would mean having to keep (and likely host) an older version of CEP for my players, which would just make things more confusing.
Same if I needed to take up more hard drive space with multiple versions for playing single-player or other multi-player modules.

Good points...but like the comment I made on another post in the forum...we can keep our old PW's and just look to making new ones with a whole new CEP.

Re: Not Used: Suggestion of rebuilding CEP haks
I think we should stick to the central concept of the CEP as an inclusive library. It may be that some models are redundant and not as (hmnnnn) refined, but it's hard to tell what someone will find useful and I too would hate to see content disappearing. Imtherealthing, I think your point about blueprints is important. As I understand it, the blueprints are actually separated into the builder hak, and PW's that are pushing the palette limits can abstain from linking the builder hak to avoid all the extra blueprints/palette entries (or even remove it after placing some objects.) I would like to see that distinction continue in future releases with the option of linking only the subset of CEP hak files needed for a builder's vision.
Re: Not Used: Suggestion of rebuilding CEP haks
Please, keep CEP backward compatible. I wouldn't even bother updating if I had to completely revamp my PW. Yes, the hak names are a little wonky, and yes, there are a few redundant creatures, but that's a incredibly minor thing compared to the effort it would take to update a PW or an even modest sized module. IMO, losing backward compatibility would kill CEP.

Re: Not Used: Suggestion of rebuilding CEP haks
I'm just saying ...keep one set of "CEP compatible" and do another CEP version - a NEW CEP version on the side for new worlds going forward with less old models that are duplicated (pull all that stuff out, etc) and do other things with this other version.
i.e. CEP 2.4 continues...CEP 2.5 , CEP 2.6, etc
and perhaps call the other CEP 2012.1

I feel it should remain backwards compatible. No new version necessary.
Re: Not Used: Suggestion of rebuilding CEP haks
it's not truely backwards compatable anyway
I've had to revamp my PW a couple times to fix appearances that have changed in the cep appearance.2da

Re: Not Used: Suggestion of rebuilding CEP haks
It seems like the top hak system would accommodate this to a great extent already. Anyone who wishes to 'eliminate' creatures need only place their modified 2da files into the top hak, don't they? I realize the CEP haks will still have their resources. Or am I wrong?

Re: Not Used: Suggestion of rebuilding CEP haks
You can dump a modified appearance.2da into the cep2_custom.hak file on the server/builder side, replacing the name field with **** for any creature (or placeable, tail, or wing) appearances you do not use. As long as you're just "blanking out" appearances you don't like and not adding new ones or changing existing ones to something else, players won't see any difference.
