Transferring "Critter" section from the old forums.

Post by Tyndrel on Mon Jan 30, 2012 8:17 am

If no one has any objections I'll start transferring 420's
"Critters/Monster Index" into the Documentation and Links section of the
new forum. If I may I'll integrate picture and description links into
each creature. Does anyone have any objection to the title being NwN
Bestiary? jocolor

Example -

Abishai (Type 1)

Created by:
MeltedSnowman (model & Black, Green & Red)
Darklight (blue & white)
Blueprints Location: Monsters|Planar|Fiendish
Appearances.2da: 1845 - 1849
Model Name: c_abishai&& (&& - b-black, bl-blue, g-green, r-red, w-white)
Image
Description (Forgotten Realms Wiki)
Description (Wiki)

Hey Tyndrel, thanks or working on this! I think that is correct and that the one you reference correctly references this one by Overdroid as the original. I dumped the text form of the .mdl files from both Overdroid and Yaballa as well as CEP and the models appear to be identical except for the textures (Yaballa added the new sandier colored texture.) and the name.

Thanks eeriegeek, I managed to find three on the vault, two by Overdroid and the other by him and Yaballa. I guess if I credit the latest version it should cover all bases. I can always change it later but for now I'd prefer to have an extra credit up there than none at all.

I was given admin access to the old forums by Shadow but it seems he decided we did not need two competing forums. I could not keep up with the spammers and the board needed serious updating. I can appreciate why he decided to remove it but i do wish he had waited until we could transfer everything or lock it and keep it for reference.

Good to hear from you Harley59 - MEMBER OF CEP TEAM *smiles* - need you.

Perhaps if we can find 420, he may have that material archived since he did the work.

I am certain one or both of those may have been the base for the Dracolich in the CEP but i know Excimer worked on these and if you look at the skull of the CEP creature you will see it is different as well as some other features such as the ridge spines and proportions - the CEP creature being a little more reptilian.

There are many models like that in CEP - an example would be ShadowM's Demon Lord Orcus which, we maintained unchanged but we - the team at that time - including two models, and me as a skin developer and the rest of the team giving suggestions - ripped and added and changed ShadowM's model into a different model - just as many started with Bioware models and changed or modified them into something different or changed or improved.

The end result of the Orcus transformation was stunning and a greatly improved (in my opinion) Orcus was the result. Such changes from Bioware models gave credit to the creative people who changed them - and this is how our body of NWN community material has grown and advanced. The CEP artists - however - for the most part - go unrecognized - even maligned for what is done on a consistent basis by the rest of the community - being called pirates and other not so nice names

It would be nice for some of the CEP team to get credit where credit is due - some of my tapestries were wrongly credited to someone else by Acaos - and i could fix that but *sigh* has not been a priority.

We do need help - those of you with skills to do so - I no longer have the time to do it ALL myself and we have lost all modelers and tileset people. My skills in tilesets is moderate to low anyway and I only do model skins and such but very little else but name changes and a few other simple things. In the past, ALL materials were gone over by modelers and cleaned or modified so they did not crash or loaded faster or worked better. Now that is not happening and that is bad for the CEP needs these things tweaked for the CEP to run fast and play nice.

Thank you all for your support of the CEP and yes we ARE (well I am anyway) working on 2.5

It is even better than that, the original links to NWVault pages are still functional after the transfer.
